Dog “Cynical” Bait

Further to my last post about our visit to Point Nepean National Park, this popped up in today’s newspaper.  A short video at the start gives a quick overview of the Park.

I shudder whenever Parks Victoria comes up with a scheme.  For three years now, they have scheduled then cancelled a burn-off in the Ocean Grove Nature Reserve.

If it goes ahead, I’ll probably be writing my next blog from a homeless shelter.

If they actually go ahead with the burn off, GOOD LUCK!

As you will read in other comments, it’s badly needed but they have a propensity to let burn-off’s get out of hand.

A reduction burn makes such a difference to the outcome, for plants animals and people in a bush fire, that it is hard to comprehend that it is not seen as a priority. When we moved to Ballarat 4 weeks ago we made sure it was to a non wildfire area, so 30 years of spending Summer watching the horizon is now over for us!

The burn-off is essential at the Reserve as there is a mountain of dead material on the ground. DSE do the deed, but like the annual mowing of the long grass on the fire breaks, we get the lowest priority. Glad to see you have settled in well and have found everything in all those boxes.

I should have said a Regular reduction burn, if it is left too many years beyond 4 of course then it becomes a danger

Which has occurred in the Ocean Grove Nature Reserve.

Remember, you will never be homeless. Don’t forget your investment in
shara court. Might be a bit squashy though!

Same here, scheduled burn that goes out of control. Shame about Point Nepean National Park seems they come up with a better plan, natural is better.

I’m back on the blogger scene after a few weeks of laziness. Burn offs frighten me. It used to happen along the cliffs behind my house when I was a child in UK. Quite scary.

    Bad bloggers, aren’t we!
