Sometime ago, one of my loyal readers asked me to get some photos of Archie the Dolphin who has been resident in our river estuary for the last 4 or 5 months.  So we set out on a search mission this week during one of our long walks and had no trouble locating him not far from the bridge.

We have no idea why Archie is hanging around the area and one school of thought is that he’s scared to go back out to sea under the bridge because of the traffic noise.  I can’t buy that as he’s quite used to power boats sauntering past and I think he just likes the area and all the fish he wants are up this river estuary.

The signs warn that death and mayhem will be dished out to all those who approach him but he seems to like human company as you can see by his antics with the kids.  Then again, he probably yearns the company of his own kind and I’d like to see him make the open sea his home again.

Check out a small video here (I can’t embed it) which was edited from three video clips.  The little bugger only comes up for air when he feels like it and muggens was just videoing empty water for ages.

He does seem to like the kids. Is any of these “save the dolphin/whale” organizations doing anything to get him back to sea? A thought, is he a he or maybe a pregnant female?

June – They are doing DNA tests on him/her at the moment to see the type of dolphin it is. Here is a news clipping and another one here.

    He looks rather disturbed.

Maybe he needs his own tv show?

    Scott – Done to death.

The people in the photos must not have read the posted notice, they seem really close to the dolphin in some of the photos. In Arizona they keep saying don’t leave dog or cat food outside because it attracts coyotes, but people think it’s cool seeing coyotes in their yards, up until the coyote eats their cat or dog, then they start screaming we have to kill the coyotes. People screw up and the coyotes pay the ultimate price. 😕

AZ – He seems to approach people swimming in the river so there isn’t much you can do in that case unless you can swim faster than the dolphin!

Maybe I should have taken a coyote with me when I went meter reading!
